The commission also raised concern about how the crisis is already affecting countries far from the conflict, warning that Africa is among the regions feeling the pressure.

“Mahmoud Ali Youssouf reiterates his deep concern over the continued escalation in the region, noting that its effects are already being felt globally, including on energy supply chains, food systems, and economic stability, particularly in Africa, a continent already confronting multiple and intersecting challenges,” the statement reads.

The AUC called on all sides involved in the conflict to step back and prioritise peaceful engagement, stressing the need to follow international law and avoid further escalation.

“He calls for restraint, urgent de-escalation, and sustained engagement, stressing that all parties must act fully in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter to safeguard international peace and security. He underscores that a durable resolution can only be achieved through dialogue and negotiated solutions,” the statement reads.
