Atwoli protests Chelugui’s ‘failure’ to gazette NSSF board member as directed by Uhuru
By evans.maritim, May 5, 2022Central Organization of Trade Unions – Kenya (COTU-K) has written to Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui to demand the gazettement of Rose Omamo to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Board as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 1 during Labour Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium.
Through its Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, COTU-K said Chelugui has refused to implement the President’s directive.
“In this act of defiance and contempt, both the Cabinet and Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Labour have disobeyed the president by delegating responsibility upwards.
“In no other democracy in the world do presidential appointees, who work at the mercies of the president, behave in the manner in which these two have conducted themselves,” Atwoli said in a statement.
The COTU-K boss further accused the ministry honchos of spreading “misinformation”.
Atwoli says CS is disrespecting the President

“Secondly, and in their act of disrespecting the president, the Ministry of Labour has embarked on a misinformation campaign whereby they have since changed positions on why they didn’t gazette Rose Omamo as a workers’ representative to the NNS Board,” he said.
Atwoli said previously, the Ministry of Labour’s major argument against the gazettement of Omamo was based on a speculated query on regional balance
“… but after it was established that no region is represented twice, the ministry has since started a new narrative questioning the capacity of Sis. Omamo to be in the NSSF Board whilst giving us conditions that are nowhere reflected under the provisions of NSSF Act, 2013,” he added.
