Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okello has called upon security agencies to be proactive in dealing with the rampant assassinations in the country.

Speaking on a local TV station on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Oello said the rate at which Kenyans are being assassinated is worrying. Okello’s sentiments come following the fatal shooting of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, along Magadi Road.

”These assassins, whoever they are, are becoming emboldened by the day. Therefore, the security systems need to be more proactive and thwart such acts,” Jared Okello said.

DCI launch investigation

Trailing the unknown assassins, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that investigations are underway following the city lawyer’s killing. In a statement released on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the DCI expressed condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late Mbobu, describing the incident as a heinous act that demands justice.

”We wish to inform the public that immediately after the incident was reported, the scene was visited by a team of detectives under the leadership of RCIO Nairobi. After securing the scene, detectives from the DCI Homicide Bureau, supported by experts from the National Forensic Laboratory, carefully examined the scene and collected critical evidence essential to the investigations,” DCI said.

DCI further assured the public that no effort will be spared in bringing the perpetrators to book, adding that investigators are working diligently and employing all available resources to piece together the events that led to the tragic killing.

Meanwhile, as the probe into Kyalo Mbobu’s shooting continues, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stated that the killing of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, along Magadi Road in Nairobi is a pointer to the country’s state of insecurity.

Taking to his X account on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Sifuna recalled his relationship with the deceased lawyer in the country’s legal corridors, describing him as charming and fair.

”The circumstances of his death are heartbreaking, painful, and worrying, especially in light of recent similar executions, a pointer to the state of insecurity in the country, but what is life? I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues in this difficult time.”
