‘As staunch proponents of broad-based govt, we welcome them’- Junet backs Ruto’s recent cabinet nominations

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has welcomed President William Ruto’s move to make recent Cabinet changes that saw close allies of former President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated to key government positions.

Taking to his official X account on Saturday, December 21, 2024, the Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) stated that as staunch proponents of the formation of a broad-based government to entrench national unity, equitable development and shared prosperity, they had welcomed the new nominees.

“As staunch proponents of the formation of a broad-based government to entrench national unity, equitable development and shared prosperity, we welcome the new leaders nominated by H.E President William Ruto to serve in the cabinet of the Republic of Kenya,” Junet stated.

Junet on service delivery

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker shared a video from an event at which he had lauded President Ruto for broadening his government.

According to home, Kenyans only need development and delivery of services, regardless of who will be used to deliver.

“Mimi ni Minority Leader uko, na mliona sasa president Ruto pia ametengeneza mambo ya broad-based. Si mliona watu wetu waliingia huko ndani? Na sisi tunaunga mkono president apanue hiyo broad-based zaidi watu wengi waingie. Na sisi hatuna shidfa ya yeye kuexpand hiyo broad-based, wale wameingia waingie na wengine zaidi wakuje ndani. Sisi ile kitu tunahitaji kama wananchi ni huduma, hatutaki kujua ni nani analeta hiyo huduma,” Junet is heard saying in the video.

Ruto’s Cabinet changes

President William Ruto on December 19, 2024, nominated Mutahi Kagwe, Lee Kinyanjui, and William Kabogo for key Cabinet Secretary positions as part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership in vital sectors of government.

Kagwe was appointed as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, while Lee Kinyanjui will now head the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, a strategic portfolio focused on boosting Kenya’s investment climate and trade relations.

Kabogo was appointed Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy, taking charge of Kenya’s digital transformation agenda.

Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u who previously served as in the position Kabogo has been nominated to, was nominated as High Commissioner to Ghana, where she will strengthen Kenya’s bilateral relations with the West African nation.

Dorothy Angote has been nominated High Commissioner to Zimbabwe, continuing Kenya’s efforts to deepen ties with Southern Africa, while Andrew Karanja will serve as Ambassador to Brazil, playing a key role in enhancing Kenya’s relations with Latin America.

Ababu Namwamba will represent Kenya as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) / United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). Namwamba’s experience in government is expected to bolster Kenya’s environmental diplomacy on the global stage.
