Kisii governor Simba Arati has complained about the National Treasury’s delay to release funds to county governments for salaries and bursaries to learners.

Arati blamed a section of Kisii ward rrepresentatives for writing to the Controller of Budget (COB) to halt the release of funds to the county government because of their own selfish interests.

“The county has not paid salaries to workers for two months due to the stoppage and they (workers) are suffering,” Arati said, terming the move by the MCAs wrong and unacceptable.

The governor noted the county government had finalized the process of identifying needy students to benefit from the bursaries but was unable to disburse the funds following the MCAs’ letter which halted the release.

He said it was wrong for leaders to derail development in the county, saying that this undermined the spirit and purpose of devolution.

“I am in the Orange Democratic Movement and they are in the United Democratic Alliance. We have to work together to foster development in the county,” the governor noted.
