Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Cleophas Malala’s arrest saga
Reactions to the impasse involving Cleophas Malala, the former UDA Secretary General and the Police is among the top new events to look out for today.
The politician was on Wednesday night arrested by scores of people believed to be police officers outside Kirobon Girls’ School in Nakuru, while attempting to reach students from Butere Girls for rehearsal purposes.
The students are scheduled to perform the play ‘Echoes of War,’ a play directed by Malala, which has sparked wide discussion across social media in recent weeks.
In a video posted on his official social media account on Wednesday, April 9, Malala said that more than 50 police officers were sent to arrest him over the play. Speaking from inside his car, the former Senator appeared visibly shaken as he questioned the basis of the arrest.
Malala further decried what he termed as attempts to frustrate the performance of the controversial play, stating that the students had been directed to perform the play on Thursday on very short notice, having only reassembled a day earlier in preparation for the play.
Butere Girls are scheduled to perform the play “Echoes Of War” this Thursday morning after a decision to reinstate the play was made, following its controversial dropping among the plays to be performed in the ongoing school performances.
So far, no official confirmation of the arrest has been provided.
