Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Ruto Mt Kenya tour to start

After a long wait, President William Ruto is expected to commence his Mt Kenya tour on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

He arrived in Sagana State Lodge on Monday, March 31, 2025, in preparation for the tour of the vote-rich region, which supported him overwhelmingly during the 2022 General Election.

Ruto is expected to be accompanied by his deputy, Kithure Kindiki; cabinet secretaries; government officials; and lawmakers from the region for a weeklong development tour.

Among the projects Ruto is set to launch, inspect progress of or commission, include roads, affordable housing units, markets and industrial parks in the region.

Equally, the president is expected to issue title deeds in Kieni and Tigania, inspect the construction of the Ksh500 million County Aggregation and Industrial Parks in Laikipia and Kiambu counties.

Ruto is also expected to launch water and sanitation projects in Meru and Embu counties and inspect livestock feedlots in Tigania and Imenti during his tour, among other projects.

Parliament resumes

The National Assembly is set to resume its sitting on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, after a short recess.

MPs are expected to convene at the House with various businesses lined up for their consideration. MPs are expected to prioritize the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Excise Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2025, upon resumption from the short recess.

In a notice on Monday, March 31, 2025, Speaker Wetang’ula directed the House Business Committee to fast-track their consideration in line with Standing Order 42(2).

As the sessions resume, the guidelines for the vetting of new government appointees will also be issued by the speaker.

April Fools Day

On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, is April Fool’s Day. Kenyans, like the rest of the world, are expected to mark the day by pulling jokes, pranks, and hoaxes!

Newspapers, TV stations, and websites are expected to participate by publishing false or outlandish stories on April 1, 2025.

Kenyan celebrities are also expected to prank their followers as part of their way of marking this day.

CS Barasa handover ceremony

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale is expected to hand over the environment docket to CS Deborah Barasa, who served at Afya House before President William Ruto reshuffled his cabinet.

The event will take place at the SHA building starting at 2 pm.

Weather forecast

Most parts of the country will experience reduced rainfall over the next five days, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.

In its forecast for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, to Saturday, April 5, 2025, the department indicated that rainfall will persist but with a significant decrease in both intensity and coverage.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley regions will experience intermittent showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoons and evenings, while maximum temperatures are expected to range between 30°C and 32°C.

In contrast, North-western Kenya, covering Turkana and Samburu, will remain mostly dry with sunny intervals throughout the period. Daytime temperatures will peak at 38°C, while minimum temperatures will drop to as low as 9°C in some areas.
