Ambani: Candidates should be honest
As the campaigns for the impending Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential elections hit fever pitch, contestants are being put to task over a number of promises they are making.
Even without a date set for the polls stakeholders are questioning the validity of campaign strategies coupled with unrealistic manifestos that are seen as a ploy to lure delegates.
With incumbent Nick Mwendwa fighting to stay on for a second four-years term, at least six other contenders have come forth with a number of promises, vowing to oust him.
Former Kenyan international Boniface Ambani has, however, urged all contestants to prove their worth and not try to hoodwink voters.
“I do not believe in the so-called manifestos. To me, those are papers just used as a ladder to leadership and then the status quo remains. We need to vet each of these people who want the seat thoroughly.
The delegates must be objective because we will then depend on them to take the game forward,” Ambani told People Sport on phone yesterday.
The ex-AFC Leopards and Yanga FC forward also rubbished Mwendwa’s attempt to cling to power.
“People out here telling us that the current FKF boss deserves another term yet he has messed up the game with his cronies who do not understand football. Maybe we can look at Nicholas Musonye due to his vast experience in football management. The rest to me add no value when we demand proper changes,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Leopards and Shabana coach Gilbert Selebwa has urged those angling for seats to have the interest of the game at heart.
“It does not matter what is said out there, what we all want is improvement of football standards,” said Selebwa.
