Allocate pupils their Form One school of choice, tutor pleads

A section of teachers has appealed to the Form One selection teams for the last KCPE candidates to consider the wishes of candidates and allocate them schools of their choice.

The head teacher Tumaini Spire Academy in Juja, Kiambu County Anne Karanja (pictured) said learners are usually frustrated and demoralised when the selection panels ignore their schools of choice and send them to far-flung areas for their secondary education. “The government should give the candidates a soft landing as many feel frustrated when they are picked to join schools which were not of their choice. This may affect their secondary education,” said Karanja.

KCPE examination

She was speaking to journalists when she led pupils, teachers and parents in celebrating the school’s sterling performance in the historical last KCPE examination.

At least 70 out of the 93 candidates at the centre scored 350 marks and above, with the top performer Beatrice Wambui attaining 408 marks.

Karanja also said the school’s mean score for the 2023 KCPE exam improved from 356 last year to 358.

Wambui who dreams to be an automotive engineer, attributed her good performance to hard work, prayers and support from teachers and parents. She wishes to join Mary Hill Girls High School in Kiambu.

Another top performer, Tatiana Maina who scored 397 and hopes to become a neuro-surgeon also wants to join Mary Hill Girls and attributes her success to faith in God and overwhelming support from teachers and parents.

Incidentally, the 48 boys who sat the exam were, however, missing from the celebrations as they were still in confines after undergoing initiation ceremonies.
