Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Penina Malonza could soon find herself in trouble after a Mombasa-based activist moved to court to challenge her appointment of board members in two parastatals under her ministry.

Commission for Human Rights and Justice Chief Executive Julius Ogogo claims that Malonza blatantly violated the law when [ocking board members of both the Tourism Board of Kenya and the Tourism Fund.

Ogogo says that while Tourism Act Article 67, sub-section (d) explains powers of the CS in appointing the board, Malonza violated the clause and went on to appoint individuals outside the specified scope.

“In the case of the Tourism Fund, the CS acted against its principle by leaving out members of the universities and those from registered national tourism associations,” Ogogo adds.

He further says; “We cannot allow a CS to blatantly violate the law as she wishes, we will be asking the court to overturn the appointment and reprimand her.”

Last Friday, Malonza gazetted Patrick Njeere, Joseph Sarisar, Dorcas Ayema and Silas Toochim as the new members of the board of the Tourism Fund.
