Aaron Cheruiyot: Ndidi Nyoro is using funds meant to pay teachers for school fees
By Mabonga Makhanu, January 14, 2026Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has claimed that Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro is using money meant for teachers’ pay to cover school fees.
While speaking during an interview on a local podcast on Tuesday, January 13, 2025, the outspoken senator explained that, due to the fee reduction for Kiharu Day secondary schools from Ksh1,000 to Ksh500, the MP is using funds that would have been used to pay teachers to instead cater for students’ fees.
While applauding the MP who has been critical of how the government has been handling several issues in the recent past, on the school fees issue, Cheruiyot went on to slam those victimising MPs from other areas for not mirroring what the Kiharu lawmaker is doing in his constituency, saying that every region has its own challenges and needs.

Cheruiyot further explained that schools in different areas have different requirements. In some regions, almost 100 per cent of teachers are employed on a TSC basis, meaning no extra funds are required to pay them since they are directly paid by the government. In other regions, however, some schools have a 50-50 split between TSC teachers and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) teachers, hence requiring additional funds to pay the PTA teachers.
According to the Kericho senator, the Kiharu constituency seems to have many teachers from the TSC and therefore does not require funding from parents.
As a result, funds that would have been used to pay teachers are being redirected to cater for students’ fees, leading to the reduction in fees to Ksh500.
“Despite infrastructure, the biggest need in any school is usually the payment of teachers. There are some regions within the country where 80 to 90 per cent of the teachers are on TSC, meaning they don’t have other financial needs, so CDF money can be used for other projects,” he said.
“Whereas in some regions, the ratio of TSC teachers to PTA teachers is 50-50, so it varies from one region to another.”
Masomo Bora programme

This comes a day after Kiharu MP, through his Masomo Bora programme, reduced school fees to Ksh500, something that has left the nation wondering about the source of funds for such a programme.
