Nyamira County Government workers who were allegedly hired or promoted without due process have received letters asking them to show cause why they should not be fired.

The letters, which were seen by People Daily, were signed by the chief officer in the Department of Public Service and Management Rael Momanyi.

Over 700 workers from the ten units had received the letters by Thursday.

Nyamira County Secretary Jack Magara said the county leadership was only asking the employees to explain how they were recruited or promoted.

“There are important information or documents pertaining to their employment or promotion missing in their personal files and that is why we are asking them to provide us with such information and other details  before any action is taken against them,” Magara said.

Shem Nyang’au, who works at the Department of health confirmed receiving a show cause letter but maintained his promotion was genuine.

“I don’t understand why the chief officer in the Department of public service management has written to me saying I got my promotion irregularly,” he said.
