Busia County Senator Okiya Omtatah has predicted that 2025 is going to be a great time for the country.

Omtatah has been at the forefront last year as he took part in a number of popular initiatives aimed at pushing the government to deliver on its manifesto and obey the law.

In his New Year message, the senator has urged Kenyans to maintain resilience and strength as they put the government on check.

“I take this opportunity to wish every Kenyan a happy new year full of God’s blessings. Your resilience and strength in times of hardship are admirable.

“I want to thank every Kenyan for all the support they have accorded us when we needed it most.” 2025 will be a great year, though there is a lot of work we all need to put in.

“We never give up because the future is indeed bright. God bless you and Happy New 2025,” Omatatah’s message on January 2, 2025, read.

Anti-abduction demos

As 2024 came to an end, Omtatah took part in the protests dubbed ‘End Abductions.’ The demonstration was staged to push the government to make sure the youth who have been reported missing are produced.

He even met with the families of the young men who have gone missing, and according to him, their pain and resilience serve as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for justice.

“We have engaged a lawyer who will be filing legal action on Monday to compel security agencies to produce these young men in court, as mandated by law. If there are any charges against them, they must be brought before the court in accordance with Article 49 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

“In solidarity with these families, we are calling for a nationwide demonstration on Monday to demand an immediate end to abductions in Kenya. I urge all Kenyans who care about justice and the future of our nation to join us in large numbers. Let us remind this administration that we are a republic governed by the rule of law, not by impunity.

“I also take this opportunity to remind the President, as Commander-in-Chief, of his oath to respect, uphold, and protect the Constitution. He must ensure the safe return of these young men and publicly apologize to the victims, their families, and the nation for these egregious violations of their rights.

“The rule of law must prevail,” he said in a statement then.

His steps will be closely watched, especially after declaring interest to vie for the presidency in 2027.
