2022 memorable moments of Raila Odinga
ODM leader Raila Odinga had numerous memorable moments in 2022, a year where he was viewed to have come closest to winning the presidential election.
His association with his erstwhile arch-rival Uhuru Kenyatta made his supporters and troops confident that his fifth stab at the presidency would finally yield fruits.
Odinga had several memorable moments in the run-up to the presidential contest and after the August 2022 general elections.
Here are some of Raila's memorable moments;
Raila picks Martha Karua as running mate
Raila Odinga named Martha Karua in May 2022 as his running mate, making her the first woman to run on a major political party's presidential ticket.
Raila's decision was received warmly across the nation since it provided the opportunity for Kenya to have its first female Deputy President had they won the August polls.
"My dear Kenyans, cometh the hour, cometh the lady. I have the great honour to announce that I have picked as my running mate, and cabinet secretary for justice and constitutional affairs, the honourable Martha Wangari Karua," he said then.
Raila loses to Ruto
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the winner of the presidential election, amid last-minute chaos as four commissioners denounced the week-long count and disowned the result.
Official results showed that Ruto won 50.49% of the vote, beating the longtime opposition leader Raila Odinga and narrowly avoiding a run-off.
Chebukati announced that Ruto who ran on a United Democratic Alliance party ticket (UDA) garnered 7,176,141 votes.
Raila Odinga who ran on the Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition party followed closely with 6942,930 votes.
Raila rejects Ruto's victory
ODM leader Raila Odinga rejected the August 9th presidential election result, saying the announcement of the winner was illegal.
Raila cited a split in the electoral commission and the chairman’s failure to explain how he came up with the final numbers.
“The figures announced by Chebukati are null and void and must be couched by a court of law," Odinga said. "In our view there is neither a legally, validly declared winner nor a president-elect. Mr. Chebukati's announcement purporting to announce a winner is a nullity,” he said.
Odinga said IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati, did not follow the constitution and the electoral law when declaring the winner.
Raila files election petition
After IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto as Kenya's president-elect, Raila filed a petition to the Supreme Court challenging the result. 
Odinga rejected the outcome of the poll, branding it a "travesty", after he narrowly lost to Ruto by around 230,000 votes or less than two percentage points.
Supreme Court throws out Raila's petition
The Supreme Court of Kenya upheld William Ruto's win following a presidential election petition by Raila Odinga.
In a judgement read by Chief Justice Martha Koome, the seven-judge bench unanimously ruled that the August 9 presidential election was conducted in line with the country’s constitution. 
Raila said he respected the decision but disagreed.
“We respect the opinion of the court although we vehemently disagree with their decision today,” Odinga said on Twitter, within an hour of the court’s decision.
