2 shot dead as police in Narok recover AK-47 after a fierce gunfight
Police officers based at Lolgorian Police Station have reported that they recovered an AK-47 rifle during a well-coordinated operation that disrupted a criminal syndicate linked to a series of murders, violent robberies, and burglaries in Narok County.
According to a statement shared by the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Sunday, May 17, 2025, acting on intelligence, the officers trailed people of interest to Olakira, where they found them in the act of breaking into a local pub and loading assorted alcoholic beverages.
“In a well-coordinated operation, police officers based at Lolgorian Police Station have recovered an AK-47 rifle, cutting short the reign of terror of a syndicate linked to a wave of murders, violent robberies, and burglaries.”
“Acting on intelligence, the officers trailed the suspects to Olakira, where they caught the miscreants red-handed breaking into a local pub and packing assorted alcoholic drinks.”

The people of interest are said to have fled the scene upon noticing the officers, abandoning their loot and escaping on a waiting motorcycle. Police officers pursued them and later cornered them in the Olkilorit area.
The report further indicates that the people of interest defied orders to surrender and instead opened fire on the officers, prompting a shootout in which the police responded with what they described as ‘calibrated force’. As a result, two members of the criminal gang were fatally injured, while one person of interest escaped with gunshot wounds.

From the scene, police recovered an AK-47 rifle fitted with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition, two Maasai swords, a claw hammer, a red Boxer motorcycle, and assorted alcoholic beverages, among other items believed to have been stolen from the home.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to Transmara West Sub-County Hospital’s Level 4 mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination, while the recovered exhibits were secured.
Police also stated that operations are ongoing to track down the remaining person of interest who fled the scene with injuries, with officers pursuing what they described as crucial leads.
