2 nabbed in Migori over narcotics and illicit brew
By Faith Lagat, September 19, 2025Police in Kuria West Sub-County have arrested two individuals in a targeted raid in Kehancha Town, seizing narcotics and illicit alcohol.
According to a National Police Service (NPS) statement posted on X on September 19, 2025, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb drug-related crimes in the region.
The raid focused on a residential house near Ladopharma Hospital, where officers apprehended a 46-year-old woman. During a thorough search of the premises, police recovered 179 rolls of cannabis, four packets of Super Match Export cigarettes, and Ksh21,140 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the illegal trade.
Arrest and recovery
“During the operation, officers stormed a residential house next to Ladopharma Hospital, where they arrested a 46-year-old female suspect. A search of her house led to the recovery of a black bag containing 179 rolls of cannabis, four packets of Super Match Export cigarettes, and Ksh 21,140 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the illicit trade,” read the NPS statement.

A second person of interest, a man, was also arrested in the same operation. Police discovered more cannabis in his room along with a 10-litre jerrican of chang’aa, a strong illicit brew commonly brewed locally. Both persons of interest were detained and are awaiting processing and arraignment.

Operations across the region
The Migori operation follows another successful police action in Homa Bay County on September 17, 2025. Officers from Ndhiwa Police Station, while patrolling along Ndhiwa–Sori Road, spotted a motorcycle carrying a rider, two pillion passengers, and a large piece of luggage.
When the rider ignored commands to stop and sped off toward Rodi, police gave chase. The suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled into a nearby thicket, leaving behind a sack containing 390 rolls of bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh 117,000. The motorcycle was impounded, and the evidence secured, with investigations ongoing.
The NPS praised the swift actions of its officers in both counties and urged the public to provide timely information to aid law enforcement.
