The DCI noted that a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 11 gunny bags containing cannabis weighing a total of 825 kilograms. The narcotics are estimated to have a street value of Ksh24.7 million.
According to the DCI, the two persons of interest were taken into lawful custody, while the truck and the recovered cannabis were seized as investigations continue. They are currently undergoing processing pending their arraignment in court.
Govt vows to strengthen crackdown
The latest seizure comes just days after the government pledged to intensify the fight against drug trafficking in the Coast region during this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

During the commemoration, government officials vowed to strengthen enforcement efforts and crack down on narcotics networks blamed for fuelling crime and destroying livelihoods across the region.
Authorities say investigations into the source and intended destination of the consignment are ongoing as the government steps up efforts to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates operating along the Kenyan coast.
