14,000 tutor vacancies advertised
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced at least 14,000 primary and secondary school teacher vacancies.
TSC seeks to employ 5,000 teachers to support the 100 per cent primary to secondary school transition policy and address existing shortages.
“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the TSC’s website not later than July 7,” reads a notice published today.
Of the total vacancies, 3,872 posts are for secondary school teachers, 28 for Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) and 1,000 for primary school tutors.
Natural attrition
TSC is also declaring 8,230 vacancies to replace teachers who exited service through natural attrition, with 6,539 posts for primary and 1,691 posts for secondary schools.
To qualify for recruitment as a secondary teacher, a candidate should be a Kenyan, holder of at least a diploma in education and must be a registered teacher with TSC.
For TTCs, a candidate must be a Kenyan, holder of at least a Bachelors degree in Education and registered with TSC, while primary school teachers must be a holder of P1 certificate.
TSC says the recruitment guidelines for the 2022/2023 Financial Year will apply.
Similarly, the list of shortlisted candidates, interview dates and venues will be published on the TSC’s website by July 15.
“Shortlisted candidates will be required to present original academic and professional certificates. Successful candidates must not fill out more than one application for employment form. Filling out two or more Applications for employment forms will lead to disqualification,” the commission warns in the notice.
North Eastern
Successful candidates will be posted to serve in any part of the country and not necessarily in the county or school where they were interviewed.
TSC also assured that merit lists generated during this recruitment for primary and post-primary institutions will be used in subsequent recruitments within the financial year.
At the same time, TSC has re-advertising 844 posts – 764 posts for primary and 80 for secondary schools – to fill vacancies in Garissa, Wajir and Mandera Counties.
To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should be a Kenyan and must hail from Garissa, Mandera or Wajir counties.
They should also be teaching under the Board of Management in the three counties if they do not hail from the region.
