The number of patients who have contracted Cholera in Murang’a county has reached 20. Seven of the patients have already been treated and discharged while thirteen others are receiving treatment in isolation at Kaharo health centre in Maragua.

The victims are said to have attended a social event for one of their friend early last week and it’s believed they could have taken contaminated food.

Alice Muthoni a public health officer has now urged the public to avoid eating food in social gathering to keep the bacteria at bay.

She also said food hawking should be banned until the spread is curbed. “People should be avoid eating food in the streets because they don’t know if they have been prepared under required hygiene standards,” she said.

“Most of the food in the streets is washed with raw water which could be contaminated and thus increasing the risk of the spreading of the disease” she added 

Robert Kuria another public health officer said they are distributing aqua tabs and chroline to help the residents especially in slums to purify water before using it.
