National polo team triumphs over Zambia in international tournament

Kenya’s national polo team displayed exceptional determination and skill, securing a 3-2 victory over Zambia during the 9-Goal International Polo Tournament at the Nairobi Polo Club.

The tournament featured three tiers of competition, with the Gillies Turle trophy contested by teams including Tusker Malt, Tanqueray, SBM Bank, and SGA Security. In a fiercely competitive final on Saturday, SBM Bank’s team, comprised of Archie Voorspuy (Handicap 3), Harry Millear (Handicap 3), Izzy Voorspuy (Handicap 3), and Izzy Stichbury (Handicap 1), put up a spirited fight but ultimately fell short, with Tusker Malt emerging victorious with a score of 6-5.

Casimir Gross, a remarkable 6-goal player, showcased his talent by scoring all six goals for Tusker Malt. Izzy and Archie Voorspuy contributed two goals each, while Harry Millar added one.

The Fat Hippo trophy final witnessed Primarosa securing a triumphant 3-0 win against 24:7. Gregory Kimani netted two goals for Primarosa, and Hiromi Nzomo added one to seal the victory. Jamie Excell and Michelle Morgan scored for 24:7.

The highly-anticipated main event on Sunday featured Team Kenya facing off against Team Zambia. Kenya’s lineup included Jadini Nzomo (1), Ben Stonewigg (2), Joss Craig (2), and captain Archie Voorspuy (3). On the Zambian side were Harry Millar (3), Darryl Higgins (2), Jamie Henderson (3), and Niels Bojsen (1). Kenya secured the victory with goals from Archie Voorspuy and Jadini Nzomo, while Zambia’s Harry Millar displayed his prowess, scoring all of Zambia’s goals.

The Nairobi Polo Club will continue to host polo action from September 22nd to September 24th, 2023, marking the fourth game out of a total of nine games for the 2023/24 season. SBM Bank of Kenya serves as a season sponsor, contributing a generous sponsorship of 3 million.
