The third edition of the Nairobi City Marathon which was scheduled for Sunday, July 7, 2024, has been postponed to September 8 2024.

In a statement, the Nairobi Marathon organizers on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, disclosed that the postponement was due to unavoidable external circumstances.

“After widespread consultations, evaluation and introspection, the Nairobi City Marathon, earlier scheduled for this Sunday, July 7, has been postponed to September 8,” the Nairobi Marathon statement reads.

“The postponement has been occasioned by unavoidable, external circumstances beyond the control of the organizing committee. This decision was made in light of the current situation in Kenya, with respect for democratic processes and sensitivity to the matter.”

The organisers further disclosed that the athletes who were to participate had earlier proposed the event to be shelved to another date.

“Thousands of athletes who had already registered for the event have further proposed that it be shelved to another date. However, we would also like to appreciate those who genuinely wanted the event to still take place,” Nairobi Marathon organisers said.

Bigger Nairobi City Marathon

Promising a most memorable event, the organisers said that the postponement provides the opportunity to put in place measures to ensure a bigger and better edition than the previous two.

“This postponement provides us with the opportunity to put in place measures to ensure a bigger and better edition than the previous two. We will push full steam ahead and work non-stop to ensure that the marathon is one of the biggest and most memorable events across the globe this year,” the organisers said.

“We apologize to anyone who had expended resources and time preparing for this marathon and empathize with the inconvenience brought upon you by the sudden change of plans.”

The marathon organisers called upon interested participants to take advantage of the extended period to register for the marathon.

“For interested participants, use this extended period to continue registering for the marathon and training for it,”
