The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics on Monday released the first report on the 2019 Population and Housing Census that was carried out in August this year.
The population has grown from 37.7 million in 2009 to 47.6 million in 2019.
Here are the 10 most populous counties:
Nairobi
Nairobi topped the counties with 4,397,073 people of which 2,192,452 were male and 2,204,376 were female. The intersex population was 254.
Kiambu
Kiambu is the second most populous county with a total population of 2,417, 735 of which 1,187, 146 were male and 1,230,454 were female. In Kiambu, the intersex population was 135.
Nakuru
Nakuru is the third most populated county with 2,162,202 of which 1077272 were male and 1,084,835 were female. There were 95 intersex people in the county.
Kakamega
Kakamega County becomes the fourth most populated county with 1,867,579 people, 897, 133 of which were male and 970,406 were female and an intersex population of 40 people.
Bungoma
Bungoma County emerges as the fifth most populated county with a total population of 1,670,570 of which 812, 146 were male while 858, 389 were female. The intersex population in the county is 35.
The rest five counties rank as follows
- Meru – Total population of 1,545,714 with 767,698 male and 777,975 female and 41 intersex.
- Kilifi – Total population of 1,453,787 with 704,089 male and 749,673 female and 25 intersex.
- Machakos – Total population of 1,421,932 with 710,707 male and 711,191 and 34 intersex.
- Kisii – Ranked ninth with a total population of 1,266,860 people. 605,784 are male and 661,038 are female. The rest 38 are intersex.
- Mombasa – Ranked tenth with a total population of 1,208,333 with 610,257 males and 598,046 female and 30 intersex
