Mwaure asks Uhuru not to sway poll in Raila’s favour
Agano Party presidential candidate Waihiga Mwaure yesterday asked President Uhuru Kenyatta not to influence next week’s election in favour of Azimio candidate Raila Odinga, who he has endorsed for the presidency.
Mwaure also asked Uhuru not to use taxpayer money for the benefit of any of the candidates but should leave Kenyans to make their own decisions.
“ What message are you giving to Kenyans? Are you saying mpende msipende (whether you like it or not), so and so will be the president?” Mwaure asked.
He went on: “I am asking you [Uhuru] personally as a presidential candidate that you confirm to Kenyans that you or the deep state around you will not influence elections towards your preferred candidate.”
Mwaure emphasised on the need for the country to remain peaceful and called on the electoral commission to ensure elections are free and fair to avoid a repeat of the post-election violence witnessed every election year. He further urged IEBC to do its job diligently without favouring any candidate or individual.
Mwaure, who expressed confidence that he will win next week’s polls, at the same time said his Cabinet should he take over power will include current Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i and George Magoha, Roots Party deputy presidential candidate Justina Wamae as well as Raila’s wife, Ida Odinga, and Deputy President William Ruto’s wife, Rachel Ruto.
