Muthaiga Golf Club successfully defended their title in the second edition of the Kenya Golf Union-Patrons Trophy held over the weekend at the Muthaiga’s Par 71 tuff.
The tournament stood as a tribute to the late former President Mwai Kibaki, a stalwart Patron of both the Kenya Golf Union and the Muthaiga Golf Club.
Captain Bob Ngugi of Muthaiga Golf Club expressed his elation, stating, “It is encouraging to have seen the teams and their supporters come through for an exciting tournament. We want to see more of the same in subsequent years.”
Spanning three captivating days, the Patrons Trophy, which teed off last Friday, witnessed Muthaiga Golf Club amass a cumulative tally of 105.5. The journey began with the Friday foursomes, where the home team secured an initial 13.5 points.
On Saturday morning, their momentum continued as they added 20 points, followed by an afternoon surge that netted them 27 points.
The climax came on Sunday in the singles, where they collected a final 45 points, culminating in their impressive cumulative tally of 105.5. However, VetLab Golf Club wasn’t content to merely be spectators in this display of golfing excellence. With an impressive performance, they held the potential to upset the hosts’ plans. VetLab finished second overall, accumulating a commendable total of 93.5 points.
Their journey saw them start strong, posting 25.5 points in the Friday afternoon Foursomes. Despite a momentarily slow start on Saturday morning with five points in the Four Ball Better Ball, they roared back with 18 points in the afternoon Foursomes.
The crescendo of their challenge was the Sunday singles, where they managed a formidable 45 points. Sigona claimed the third position with a cumulative score of 29 points. In the Patron’s Shield competition, Nyali Golf & Country Club emerged triumphant, amassing a total of 105 points.
