Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni is the latest world leader to condemn the assassination attempt on the USA’s presidential candidate Donald Trump.

The GOP candidate was the target of an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, July 14, 2024, that set off panic as a bloodied Trump was surrounded by Secret Service and hurried into his vehicle for safety.

The gunman, who was later identified as Thomas Mathews Crooks was shot and killed by a sniper as he was responsible for the shots fired at Trump.

This act was condemned by US President Joe Biden, top leaders in the country including 44th President Barrack Obama as well as other leaders from outside America.

In his reaction, Museveni conveyed his sympathy message to the 44th US’ president s desribed the act as a cowardly act.

“I learnt of the assassination attempt on His Excellency Donald Trump’s life on Saturday, July 13, 2024, during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. On behalf of the Government and people of Uganda, and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deep and heartfelt sympathies to His Excellency.

“At the same time, I condemn this despicable and cowardly assassination attempt that put his life and that of his supporters at risk. I also extend my deepest condolences to the family that lost their loved one. As freedom fighters and peace-lovers, we condemn political violence because it threatens democracy wherever it manifests.

“I wish His Excellency and all those injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” Museveni said in a post on X on Wednesday, July 16, 2024.

Later on Monday, July 15, Trump appeared in the public for the first time during the Republican National Convention with a bandaged ear. According to BBC, Trump received a rapturous welcome from thousands of supporters two days after an attempt on his life.

He entered the convention arena in Milwaukee with a fist raised, in his trademark fashion, and to the strains of a live performance of ‘God Bless the USA’.

He was received by a cheering crowd of delegates and some with tears in their eyes – before greeting key political allies and members of his family.
