Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans of robust changes that will revamp the sports ministry.
Speaking when he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments for vetting on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Murkomen assured the committee that if approved, he will eradicate incompetence in the sector.
He explained that he now has a group of patriotic youth rallying behind him to help him actualise the goals for the industry and propel it to excellence.
The former Transport CS also warned that all incompetent officials currently at the ministry should voluntarily exit and accept the changes.
“The people of Kenya would like to have an organisation that is being run in a proper and accountable manner…they need to know one thing, Murkomen is not alone, now I have an army of young people behind me, they either voluntarily exit this positions and accept the changes we need or we greet or occupy them,” he said before the committee chair Moses Wetang’ula interrupted him saying; “That is unlawful and we encourage you not to go through that route.”

The CS nominee also assured the committee that he would reform the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is his nomination is approved by parliament.
“The place that has to start is football sports management and for this purpose, FKF. It is not right that for the last eight years, you have an organization that has a leadership in office that has not been elected but there are there in perpetual,” Murkomen stated.
He also spoke on the Athletics Kenya (AK) saying it has a serious problem with management.
According to Murkomen, it is unfortunate that the federation has been existent for 12 years without an election.
“It is not just FKF. AK has been there for 12 years without having an election. There is a serious problem when it comes to sports management in this country. What is also worse is that there is a collaboration between these organizations and court orders. They perpetuate themselves using court orders the same way FKF is perpetuating itself along a court order,” Murkomen said.
