“Sports infrastructure is crucial for talent development and ensuring sustainable livelihoods. As a ministry, we are dedicated to delivering these facilities to help our youth develop their talents and monetize their skills. I conducted an inspection of Kirigiti Stadium and was impressed by the work done. We are now focused on finalizing key areas, including installing seating, setting up technology infrastructure, and completing the playing field,” stated Murkomen.

He highlighted the historical significance of Kirigiti Stadium, noting that it was the venue for Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s final rally before his detention. He also underscored the government’s commitment to using the stadium as a symbol of youth empowerment and socio-economic progress.

“Kirigiti Stadium is an important national monument, being the venue where our founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, addressed his last rally before going to detention. It is our desire that in this stadium, our youth will find their socio-economic liberation. I’ll be meeting Sports Kenya to discuss the completion date, review financing, and make necessary approvals so that the four long years of waiting can end.”

Murkomen on Kirigiti monetization

Murkomen also expressed his vision of making the stadium financially self-sustaining and invited the private sector to invest in sports infrastructure across the country.

“Our goal is to make our stadiums self-sustaining by generating revenue. I’m happy to note that Kirigiti has spaces that can be monetized. I invite the private sector to join us in investing in our sporting facilities across the country,” he added.
