Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has continued to push for Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission’s (AUC) chairmanship bid while in the United States.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary is one of the delegates who accompanied President William Ruto to the United Nations General Assembly summit, and on Friday, September 27, 2024, he met with Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita.

In their deliberations, Mudavadi said Raila’s AUC bid was discussed as well as trade and bilateral relations matters.

“I had the pleasure of engaging with my Moroccan counterpart, H.E. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. Our conversation focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, trade, and mutual development between our two countries, which share a warm and longstanding partnership.

“Minister Bourita briefed me on Morocco’s progress in the fertilizer sector and their readiness to supply Kenya, a significant step towards boosting food security in our country.

“We also deliberated on key African Union matters, during which I took the opportunity to advocate for the candidature of Hon. Raila Odinga for the position of African Union Commission Chairperson in the upcoming February elections,” Mudavadi posted on his X account.

Kenya-Poland relations

The former Vice President also met with Polish Foreign Affairs Minister Radosław Sikorski, where matters of mutual interest and strengthening ties between Kenya and the European nation were discussed.

“We are pleased to explore opportunities for collaboration with the Republic of Poland in the dairy sector and the enhancement of grain handling facilities in Mombasa.

“In our meeting with H.E. Mr. Radosław Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, we engaged in fruitful discussions on areas of mutual interest that promise to strengthen the partnership between our two countries. H.E. Mr. Radosław Sikorski expressed Poland’s readiness to invest further, particularly in the energy sector, including initiatives to expand last-mile connectivity,” Mudavadi said.

According to the Prime CS, a number of Memoranda of Understanding have been signed between Kenya and Poland.

“Kenya and Poland already have a number of signed MoUs focusing on tax solidarity, agriculture and food security, and rural development. These agreements build on the fruitful visit of H.E. President @AndrzejDuda of Poland to Kenya in early February this year,” he concluded.
