Githunguri Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has asked Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata to write a letter to President William Ruto detaining various issues bedevilling the nation.
In a statement on Sunday, November 24, 2024, Wamuchomba indicated that Governor Kang’ata was best placed to write the letter, noting that he has a track record of penning such messages to Heads of State.
Kang’ata, when he was a senator, rose to political fame following his hard-hitting letter to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, where he boldly detailed what was ailing the nation then.
With that experience, Wamuchomba implored the governor to address the president on the recent shift and dwindling popularity in various parts of the country.
Wamchomba asked Kang’ata to explain to Ruto why his Kenya Kwanza side had faced a hostile reception in Murang’a and Embu.
“Dear Governor Irungu Kang’ata, you have a way of writing letters to presidents. Please write to our president and notify him of various issues since he may be unaware that his messages of goodwill during the recent Mashujaa Day were rejected by the people he once called ‘Andu Aitu.’ In Juja they told the DC aaachane nayo,” Wamuchomba’s statement read in part.
The vocal lawmaker further claimed that the clergy was finding it hard to mention Ruto’s name in the vast Mt Kenya region.
“That some clergy are finding it hard to mention his name during the prayer of our nation, a tradition in most of our churches. That the mourners in Muranga yesterday refused to listen to His message of condolences in a funeral event where you presided,” Wamuchomba added.
Besides reduced popularity, Wamumchomba listed the issue of HELB, where he noted some students are yet to receive their loans. She added that farmers in various parts of the country are waiting for their bonuses and subsidized fertiliser.
Kang’ata wa barua
In 2020, Kang’ata, who was the Senate Majority Chief Whip, penned a letter that would get him ousted from his position soon after.
He exposed various issues, including his reservations for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which was championed by Uhuru and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He capitalised on the influence gained after the letter to convince Murang’a electorates to support his gubernatorial candidature.
