Mathare United have been cleared to participate in the 2024/2025 FKF Premier League season, which is set to kick off this weekend.

The club announced in a statement that they have received clearance after meeting all the FKF Club Licensing requirements.

“Mathare United are cleared to participate in the 2024/2025 FKF-PL campaign. After meeting all requirements for FKF Club Licensing, we are pleased to confirm that the club is set for the new 2024/2025 FKF-PL season,” the club stated.

Among the requirements met were having a women’s team and a junior team.

“Among the regulatory requirements established by Africa’s football governing body CAF, each Premier League club must have both a Women’s and a Junior team,” the club added.

Mathare United will face AFC Leopards in their first match back at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi. Recently, the club announced its full technical bench, led by newly appointed head coach John Kamau.

Kamau takes over from Francis Kimanzi, who successfully guided the team back to the top tier before stepping down.

The technical team now includes Mohammed Muchula as the first assistant coach, Julius Mativo as the second assistant coach and youth team coach, David Okello as the goalkeeper coach, and Edwin Kibet as the match analyst/statistician.

Support staff also features Ambrose Oriko as the physiotherapist, Dismas Onyango as the trainer, Charles Ngugi as the assistant team manager/equipment manager, and Heskey Ndung’u as the kit manager.

In preparation for the new season, the club has made several key signings to enhance their squad. Striker Derrick Anami joins on a season-long deal from Naivas FC, bringing valuable experience to their attacking lineup.

Anami was Naivas’ second top scorer last season with eight goals and played a crucial role in their third-place finish. He is the elder brother of Harambee Starlets striker Gentrix Shikangwa.

Mathare United new signings

Midfielder Brian Ouru, also from Naivas, will make his Premier League debut with Mathare United. Ouru was instrumental in helping Naivas gain promotion to the NSL three seasons ago.
