Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has responded to former Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana’s remarks on the death of Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition party.

Taking to her official X account on Sunday, July 28, 2024, Karua stated that it is now time to reinvent and grow political parties.

Karua on political reinvention

The 2022 Azimio running mate argued that her political party, Narc Kenya, will lead in the reinvention journey, telling Kibwana to watch the space as things unfold.

“Time to reinvent and grow parties and Narc Kenya on it. Watch this space,” Karua stated in a statement shared via her official X account.

Kibwana had on Sunday, July 28, 2024, argued that the Raila Odinga-led Azimio coalition had died.

Kibwana blamed the death of Azimio on the exit of Karua, who was the coalition’s co-flag bearer in the 2022 presidential contest.

“With Azimio 2022 flagbearers Raila Odinga and Martha Karua out of the coalition, and the Chair Uhuru Kenyatta absent, AZIMIO is dead. KKA itself is shaky. Demise of today’s Coalitions is certain. Time for GENZIIs and Progressives to reimagine/reinvent Kenya. May #KenyansArise,” Kibwana said in a statement shared via his official X account.

Karua among progressives

However, Kibwana had on July 25, 2024, counted Martha Karua as part of the progressives who should mentor Gen Zs.

Karua was mentioned alongside Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, gospel musician Reuben Kigame, Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot, political analyst Gitobu Imanyara, and politician Kabando Wa Kabando.

“When all is said and done, I count Martha Karua, Okiya Omtatah, Reuben Kigame, Ekuru Aukot, Gitobu Imanyara, Kabando wa Kabando and many more as progressive. These should mentor and pass the baton to #GenZii,” Kibwana stated.

Karua’s Azimio exit

Karua’s Narc Kenya on July 25, 2024, formally announced its exit from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

Narc Kenya Acting Secretary General Asha Bashir in a letter addressed to Junet Mohammed, the Secretary General of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Secretariat, said their stay in the coalition was not tenable due to the prevailing political developments.

“Kindly take note that our stay in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is not tenable due to the prevailing political developments. As NARC Kenya, by way of this letter, we are giving notice to exit the Coalition as stipulated in the exit clause(s) in the Coalition Agreement. This notice is effective from the date of this letter,” the letter read.
