Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has dismissed as unfounded reports that his ministry had given schools the go-ahead to raise fees from next year.
He termed it as fabrication of the media and told parents only to pay the government recommended rates.
He was speaking during Mount Menya University’s 17th graduation ceremony in which 5,169 graduands were conferred with various certificates.
Magoha, who was accompanied by MKU Board of Trustees Chairman Prof Simon Gicharu, warned principals against charging fees above those stipulated in the ministry guidelines.
“At no point have we discussed the issue of increasing schoɔl fees. This is a fabrication and I want the media to hear it very clearly,” Magoha said.
He added all students will get their government grants through NEMIS
At the same time the CS called for the scaling down of universities and reduction of courses offered.
