Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris has asked Kenyan bishops to pray for President William Ruto instead of criticising him.
Ruto has been dealing with the heat generated from a scathing attack from Catholic bishops, and Passaris, in defence of the Head of State, has asked the clergy to pray and help guide the president.
The legislator also congratulated Bishop Peter Kimani for his consecration.
“Congratulations to Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u on your installation as the Bishop of Embu Catholic Diocese! Not all favoured by God are perfect; His love embraces our imperfections. @bishopmuheria, let us pray for President @WilliamsRuto to possess the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Goliath, and the favour of David.
“The church must unite in purpose, offering guidance rather than criticism. As we support one another in faith and hope, let us remember: ‘Faith is the belief that God can use imperfect people to do impossible things’,” Passaris wrote on her X handle on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Bishops’ criticism
In a scathing attack on the president, the bishops said the Kenya Kwanza government is run on lies and asked Kenyans not to applaud or validate the lies.
“The culture of lies is swiftly replacing the integrity and respect that Kenyans deserve. Basically, it seems that truth does not exist, and if it does, it is only what the government says. Unfortunately, it seems that the Kenyans have helplessly tolerated the lies told to them constantly by the politicians. Kenyans must learn not to applaud or validate the lies that the politicians tell them, but rather must resolve to seek and be led by the truth,” the bishops said in a joint statement.
Ruto’s take
Ruto has taken his time to respond to the men of cloth, asking them to base their criticism on facts. While addressing the congregants in Embu on Saturday during Kimani’s consecration, Ruto acknowledged the reception of those criticisms.
