Residents of Premium estate in Kitale on Friday took to the streets to protest power outage that has now lasted over one month.
Speaking to People Daily, the residents said that they have not had power for over one and a half months subjecting them to attacks by muggers.
They further claimed that the power outage has affected businesses with shop owners vulnerable to attacks forcing them to close shop as early as 7:30 pm.
Chirchir Bor, a resident in the area said many people have lost their valuables to burglars for one month. They demanded compensation from the electricity company Kenya Power.
“Others who have been heavily affected are those who leave home early in the morning and return late in the evening as they risk their life by walking in darkness. School children who are at home on holiday cannot read even on television programs’’, he said.
“Kenya Power should restore power in the area to avoid cases of robbery and make the area safe for the locals,” said Mercy Juma, another resident.
