Two Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kisii County say they will not support the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi and Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka said that if anything, it is President William Ruto who should be impeached instead.

The two leaders said that the current economic and political crisis facing the country has been brought on by President Ruto and he is trying to run away from them by dragging the name of his deputy into his own messes and failures by sponsoring an impeachment motion against him.

“Ruto should know that he has become unpopular with Kenyans because of his corrupt and autocratic leadership. If you compare the two, I would go for Gachagua, you cannot blame him for any of the shortcomings facing the country,” Kibagendi stated.

Current problems

Speaking to People Daily Onyonka said “The move to impeach Gachagua is null and void. Impeaching the DP is not a solution to the problems facing the country. William Ruto and Raila must sit down with Gachagua and agree on the way forward over the current problems which have engulfed our country “.

Onyonka said there are many serious problems facing the country which the legislators are supposed to address like corruption which is being perpetuated by the national government in all sectors but have chosen to engage themselves in petty politics of impeachment.

“Under the leadership of President Ruto, Kenyans for the last two years have suffered a lot due punitive taxes and yet they were not getting services to commensurate the same “he added.

Kibagendi said that before his colleagues’ dream of impeaching Gachagua they should first impeach Ruto who said he was majorly to blame for the many challenges ranging from corruption which the country was facing.

“If there is a person perpetuating tribalism in the country is President Ruto. Look at the key appointments he has made in his government since he came to power “he stated.
