Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has lamented that the House is using outdated equipment for their live broadcast.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Kingi indicated that the multi-media equipment cannot match the current demands for broadcasting its proceedings.
Kingi explained that the multimedia digital congress system and the broadcasting equipment in the Senate are all obsolete.
According to Kingi, the situation has been exacerbated by the recent Parliament invasion.
“The equipment has become outdated, a situation that has been exacerbated by vandalism during the recent protest event,” Kingi stated.

Upgrading them
To ensure continued broadcasting, Kingi announced plans to replace the equipment.
The Senate Speaker informed the lawmakers that the Clerk had taken note of the situation and plans were underway to upgrade the multimedia digital congress system and the broadcasting equipment.
The Parliament was invaded on June 25, 2024, after protesters overpowered the police. The demonstrates were picketing over the passing of the Finance Bill 2024.
Following the invasion, a section of the Parliament was set on fire and property inside was vandalised.
Following the unprecedented event, National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge issued a communique assuring the MPs of their security.
He said that appropriate plans have been put in place to expedite a return to normalcy in Parliament and allow MPs to undertake their duties in a conducive environment.
“Your security and safety at the workplace remain a key priority in these plans. As public servants, let us lean on our usual resilience, impartiality, professionalism, and solidarity to enable us to rebuild and continue serving the Nation and our institution with excellence,” he stated.
“Allow me, in a special way, to single out our officers from the Directorate of Sergeant-at-Arms, the Directorate of Security and Safety Services and the Department of Hospitality Services,” he said.
“As we move forward from that unfortunate episode, I urge us to retain and enhance our spirit of fellowship and caring for each other.”
