Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has confirmed that he has written to the registrar of political parties intending to withdraw his party, the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA), from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

The party is seeking to withdraw its signature from the coalition agreement deposited in March this year, following a fallout with top leaders of the Azimio coalition.

“We confirm that Pamoja African Alliance vide its letter dated 25th of April, 2022, has written to the Registrar Of Political Parties seeking to withdraw from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party for reasons stated therein,” said Kingi.

PAA’s National Executive Council (NEC) claims that the party has been kept in the dark over Azimio’s affairs and has been unable to access the coalition agreement or understand its terms.

“Despite signing the agreement 20 days ago, no copies have been supplied…consequently, the intended membership of PAA party in Azimio coalition party howsoever ceases forthwith. PAA has never been and declines to be a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party,” PAA said in its letter to the registrar of political parties.

Kingi however denied reports that he was heading to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by Deputy President William Ruto, terming the reports as “inaccurate and false”.

Kingi has been a political rivalry with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, who is the Deputy Party leader for ODM, over the control of the Coastal voting bloc.

Following the expiry of Kingi’s term as Kilifi governor, Azimio is fronting former lands Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Gideon Mung’aro for the seat to battle it out with Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa.
