Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kithure Kindiki on Monday, September 23, 2024, was in Mt Kenya to inspect a government development project.
This comes just days after he was endorsed as the region’s defacto link with the government.
Through his official X account, the CS revealed that he had toured Kinangop in Nyandarua county where he witnessed the resumption of fully funded works on the 40.5Km Engineer-Mbiginano-Gathara-Tulaga-Mbirithi-Chuma Road Project.
He was accompanied by Roads and Transport CS Davis Chirchir, Roads Principal Secretary Joseph Mbugua and Kinangop Member of Parliament (MP) Kwenya Thuku.
The project, Kindiki revealed, is part of the government’s programme to complete road projects whose construction had stalled during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration due to funding constraints.
Moreover, he says the government will also initiate new road projects crucial to the movement of people and goods under the programme, to expedite the country’s economic transformation.
“The Government is accelerating the programme to complete road projects whose construction had stalled during the past Administration due to funding constraints and to initiate new road projects crucial to the movement of people and goods thereby expediting Kenya’s economic transformation,” Kindiki stated.
“In Kinangop, Nyandarua County, together with Cabinet colleague Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport); Principal Secretary for Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua; Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku, other elected leaders and members of local community witnessed the resumption of fully funded works on 40.5km Engineer-Mbiginano-Gathara-Tulaga-Mbirithi-Chuma Road Project.”

Kindiki endorsed
48 Members of Parliament (MPs) drawn from the Mt Kenya region and its ‘diaspora’ declared Kindiki as their leader.
The lawmakers on September 12, 2024, expressed frustration over the lack of a clear focal point to channel their developmental concerns and priorities to the national government.
The caucus declared Kindiki as its link with President William Ruto’s administration in an apparent coup against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who has been working to consolidate the region behind him.
They argued that the absence of a centralized representative had hindered efforts to advance the region’s agenda.
About six days later, at least 300 ward representatives drawn from the Mt Kenya region also endorsed Kindiki as their main liaison with President Ruto’s administration.
The MCAs, hailing from Murang’a, Kiambu, Nairobi, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Isiolo, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties made the declaration following a meeting.
