AS the General Election date continues to draw near, Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has warned politicians from across the political divide to desist from polarizing the country through dividing Kenyans along tribal lines.
The senator, who spoke to People Daily digital in Limuru also called upon the youth not to agree to be used to disrupt political meetings by power-hungry politicians.
While opining that the same is a recipe for chaos, the senator urged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the office of the DPP to be extra vigilant in order to contain political warmongers and inciters.
He said that the Prof.Samuel Kobia led commission should swiftly swing into action and apprehend and prosecute politicians who utter inciting statements or sow seeds of discord among Kenyans.
Wamatangi who doubles up as the Senate Chief Whip said that the government shouldn’t sit back and watch as unscrupulous leaders compromise peace and unity of the people who have lived as brothers and sisters for ages.
“I urge Kobia to move in swiftly and order the arrest, grilling and prosecution of anyone found guilty of incitement into violence irrespective of their social status. He should not spare anybody even if it’s me,” he said.
He added that all politicians seeking to be elected in any position and particularly the presidency should endeavour to be ambassadors of peace and tranquility.
The senator who has since declared interest in the Kiambu gubernatorial post after serving as the area senator for two terms said that peace supercedes political position besides being the only denominator towards general development.
“Fight for political seats shouldn’t be allowed to break the country at the expense of development and unity. An election is an event which will come and go but peaceful coexistence of Kenyan ought to be a continuous process”, he said.
On Mt. Kenya unity, he said that the region will only support a presidential candidates who will commit to articulate it’s issues, particularly in revenue distribution and agricultural revolution.
“We are not interested in slogans. Our interests are issues of resource’s distribution and economic recovery of our region but not a person or their sweet slogans”, he said.
