Former Makueni County Governor Kivutha Kibwana has told Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition brigade to keep off the Gen Z movement.

Kibwana in a statement shared via his official X account on Monday, July 15, 2024, questioned the Raila Odinga-led Azimio’s involvement in a revolution that was started by the young generation.

Kibwana on dialogue

He says it is wrong for the Azimio political leaders to imagine that they can solve the problems raised by the Gen Zs by engaging President William Ruto-led government in a dialogue.

“Why does AZIMIO believe it will solve the problems raised by Gen Zs by engaging Government while the aggrieved party is Gen Z and the rest of Kenyans?” Kibwana questioned.

Kibwana while stressing the need for Azimio to keep off the Gen Zs movement noted that the political class had aborted the Mau Mau of the 1950s, and the National Convention Executive Council (NCEC) of the 1990s.

Kibwana on Gen Z movement

By the political class keeping off the Gen Zs movement, Kibwana says the country will achieve the peaceful change that everyone is yearning for.

“The Political Class aborted MAU MAU of the 50s & the NCEC of the 1990s. The Gen Z Movement is our only hope for PEACEFUL CHANGE,” Kibwana stated.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga found himself at the receiving end of Gen Zs’ wrath on social media for joining calls for national dialogue under the National Multi-Sectoral Forum which they have declined to be part of.

Ruto-Raila dialogue calls

Raila and President William Ruto announced on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the talks will get underway from today Monday, July 15, 2024, and run for six days until Saturday, July 20, 2024.

The team will comprise 150 multi-sectoral stakeholders to engage the youth.

Dialogue dilemma

However, it is yet to be known if the talks will kick off, as Raila has recently announced that he will not be part of the dialogue with Ruto, after he was pressured by Kenyans and his Azimio co-principals.

Over the weekend, Raila while speaking in Butere, Kakamega County during a burial event clarified that the conversation he was pushing is a people’s dialogue, and not President Ruto’s.

There is no clarity over where the dialogue slated for today was planned to happen and who was to attend amid opposition split and stakeholders who remain in the dark over the ambiguity associated with the talks.

Raila while visiting Kware area in Mukuru Kwa Njenga at the site where mutilated bodies have been discovered, opposed the calls for dialogue.

Azimio co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka who had accompanied Raila said the opposition will not engage in any dialogue with people with blood on their hands.
