Four of the five Members of County Assembly(MCAs) in Kikuyu constituency skipped Deputy President William Ruto’s tour in the area on Wednesday, citing retrogressive policies by the second in command in his campaigns.

Ruto and his Tanga Tanga brigade, comprising of MPs and aspirants from Kiambu, were in the region to popularize his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in a tour that saw him visit Kikuyu and Limuru constituencies.

However, while efforts had been made to reach out to all MCAs in Kikuyu to ensure they attended, only Kikuyu Township MCA Henry Kagiri, an ally of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu showed up.

Kinoo MCA Kimani Wanjiku, Karai’s Samuel Mugwanja, Sigona’s Naftali Ngugi, and Peter Kioi from Nachu were absent during the rally indicating their non-committal to the UDA party.

Kimani said a majority of the MCAs in Kiambu County were supportive of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his agenda, adding that attending DP rallies would be supportive of his continued disrespect to the Head of State.

“We did not attend that rally because we don’t subscribe to the Ruto’s philosophy nor do we trust him. We are strongly behind our President, Uhuru Kenyatta and anyone undermining him is our enemy,” Kimani said on Friday.

Several MPs from the county also gave the tour a wide berth, leaving the DP to be only accompanied by affiliated MPs including Githua Wamacukuru (Kabete), Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), John Kiarie (Dagoretti South), Gathoni Wamuchomba (Kiambu Woman Rep), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu),
Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Alice Wahome(Kandara), George Koimburi (Juja), Charles Njagua (Starehe), former Kiambu Gover-
nor Ferdinand Waititu and lawyer Nelson Havi.
