A Kericho County Government official has been arrested for awarding her company a road construction tender worth Sh5.6 million.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on June 10, arrested the Roads Inspector Kericho County, Lilian Chepkoech Kirui alongside six other people.
Ms. Chepkoech is listed as a director of Jawlink Logistics Limited, the company awarded the Sh5.6 million tender.
The EACC further held that Jawlink company was neither pre-qualified in the tender process nor registered as required by the law.
The tender award process is said to have been marred by grave irregularities, top among them being conflicts of interest.
“A County Official involved in the tender process was also a Director of Jawlink Logistics Limited. The firm was neither prequalified by the County Government nor registered with the National Construction Authority,” said EACC
The other six will also face corruption charges. Some are directors of Jawlink and others are officials of Kericho County.
They are;
- Peter Kipyegon Kosgey-Chief Officer in-charge of Public WorksRoads and Transport, Kericho County.
- Joash Chirchir-Civil Engineer, Kericho County.
- Charles Mabwai- Procurement Officer, Kericho County.
- Aaron Waiharo Njoroge, Accountant, Kericho County.
- Stanley Ruto Cheruyot-Roads Inspector, Kericho County.
- John Kimutai Rotich- Director, Jawlink Logistics Limited.
An eighth suspect, Japheth Kipgenoh, also a director of Jawlink has been ordered to present himself for arrest.
