Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) has announced an 18-woman and 16-man provisional squad for the Kenya national netball teams, both of which have started non-residential training camps at the Ulinzi Sports Indoor Arena in Nairobi.
The teams are preparing for the upcoming Africa Nations Cup, set to take place from December 9-14, 2024, in Swakopmund, Namibia.
Speaking yesterday at the training base, KNF secretary general Millicent Busolo stated that Kenya’s main objective is to gather as many points as possible to improve their rankings, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
“We just missed the first five series because our rankings are a bit lower, but again, our ladies’ team won the Mirxes Nations Cup in Singapore on their debut—a momentum we aim to carry forward as we head to Namibia,” Busolo remarked optimistically.
With a month and a half to go, Ugandan import Mugisha Ali has been appointed head coach for the squad. He will be assisted by Prisons Kenya tactician Evelyn Jerono and seasoned tactician Peninah Nyakundi. Samuel Angasa, Ann Bett and Emily Mola will serve as team managers.
Mugisha, Nyakundi along with Jerono will eventually narrow down the provisional squad to a final 12 players from each gender, who will travel to Swakopmund, a coastal city west of Namibia’s capital, Windhoek.
