Kenyas’ Agrotech secures Sh1m World Bank funding

Kenya’s Agricultural Technology Enterprise, Agrotech has been awarded Sh1 million by World Bank for advancing financial inclusion to small holder farmers. It emerged second runners up in the Global Index Insurance Facility (GIIF), a World Bank initiative that helps smallholder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs gain better access to finance, manage financial losses, and protect their livelihoods against severe weather events. World Bank Group, announced three top winners of the Africa AgTech & Inclusive Insurance Challenge, a competition for technology-led enterprises in Africa to offer innovative solutions for agriculture and inclusive insurance.

Agrotech+ from Kenya emerged third and will see it obtain financial support of $10,000). Their digital platform LendIt enables small-holder farmers access digital services such mobile money payments for commodities sold, micro-lending/input financing, crop insurance and pension scheme for the informal sector.
