Kenyans yesterday welcomed President William Ruto’s decision to send packing his entire cabinet, with many terming it long overdue.

A cross-section of leaders lauded the president’s decision, terming it not only timely but the right thing to do.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) noted that Kenyans said the decision by President Ruto to dissolve the Cabinet marks a significant step towards this much-needed rebirth.

“This bold and decisive action is a modern approach to addressing the grievances and aspirations of the Kenyan people.  “The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) fully supports President Ruto’s move to dissolve the Cabinet. It is within time for the President to have a team that not only defends the policies of the government but also effectively articulates the needs and priorities of the nation,” Atwoli (pictured) said.

Minority leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi also lauded the President for taking the right decision at a time the government was staring at a management crisis. “This is a bold move and it now gives him the leeway for a fresh start. I think he has done a good thing,’’ said Wandayi.

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o on his part said the president had done the right thing, given the crisis he was facing.

Administrative balance

“We hope he will have sufficient time to re-organise himself properly and to ensure ecological administrative balance,’’ the governor said.

Deputy ODM Party leader and former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya also hailed Ruto for the decision to send packing the cabinet, saying he was only correcting a mistake he had made by appointing inexperienced persons to head ministries.

“This is a waterloo, He needs to pick experienced CSs and also mix them with young people to learn from the old hands who have generational wisdom,’’ he said.

Oparanya said it was unfortunate that Ruto had appointed some CSs who had very little management experience, just for political convenience.

“The management style might have also affected the performance of the CSs. The rumour out here is that the President was micromanaging the Cabinet,’’ he claimed.

“He was doing all of the work and not delegating, now he has a chance to correct the anomalies,” Oparanya said.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo who is in the United Kingdom on official duty also weighed thus; “The President has done well. He has a new opening to relook into his past and where the rain started beating him to correct maladministration in his regime.’’ “Let us now give the voice of reason a chance so that Kenyans who are torn apart by deep social divisions and ethnic cleavages can sort out the mess,’’ he said
