Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga played a key role in helping St Mirren end a three-match unbeaten run in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday, defeating Ross County 2-0 at The SMISA Stadium in Paisley.
Making his sixth appearance since returning from a lengthy absence due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in January, Ayunga has been gradually regaining form.
Jonah Ayunga’s side win
The Buddies ended their three-game losing streak with a comfortable win over Ross County in a rainy Paisley.
Despite some VAR checks delaying the confirmation of their first goal after a penalty box scramble, Ryan Leak’s own goal was counted in the 50th minute.
Ayunga, who spent 300 days out injured before making his comeback last month, scored his first goal since returning just before the hour mark. His thumping shot ensured the points stayed at Greenhill Road.
St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson made three changes to the side, and despite a few VAR-related pauses, the team displayed resilience.
Jonah Ayunga’s side rise
The victory lifted them in the league standings to position three on the log. They have 25 points from 17 matches with Celtic and Rangers holding the first and second position.
Ayunga has played just 304 minutes since he made a return from injury for the club.
Ayunga, who joined St. Mirren from Morecambe FC in June 2022, had made a significant impact, scoring seven goals in 24 appearances for the club before his injury.
