While pledging full government support for the Kenyan team, Ruto also acknowledged the local designers behind Team Kenya’s ceremonial wear, saying the initiative was part of the government’s efforts aimed at creating jobs for young people by igniting the sporting apparel value chain in Kenya.

“We are proud of your athletic exploits & confident that you will do well and be our true ambassadors in Paris, France,” Ruto told the team at the ceremony.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba also drummed up support for team Kenya saying he was confident that Kenya’s excellent preparation ahead of the Paris Olympics Games will guarantee the country’s success.

“This is the most prepared we have been ahead of the Olympics. We are committed to ensuring our athletes are fully supported and ready to excel on the world stage,” Ababu said.

Malkia Strikers who will make their second successive appearance at the Olympics are currently in the Philipines where they have intensified their preparations with matches against local clubs after first-round elimination from the 2024 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Challenger Cup.

It will be the Rugby 7s team Shujaa that will dive into action first with matches scheduled to kick off on July 24, 2024, two days before the opening ceremony.
