Jubilee Party acting Secretary General Kanini Kega says the party has resolved to withdraw from the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, Kega said the resolution was arrived at during the National Executive Committee (NEC) held on June 6, 2023.
“Take notice the National Executive Committee (NEC) of Jubilee Party meeting of 6th June, 2023 resolved to withdraw from the Deed of Agreement for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition. Further take notice that pursuant to Article 33.1.1 & 2 of the Party Constitution as read together with Article 22.1. of the Deed of Agreement for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition dated 12th March 2022 Jubilee Party hereby gives notice to withdraw from the Deed of Agreement for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition,” Kega stated.
Jubilee Party wrangles
This comes even as the Kanini faction seeks to wrestle leadership from retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, who led the party in a National Delegates Council (NDC) on May 22, 2022.
The Uhuru-led faction had expelled Kega and nine other members who have joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
The party nominated new members to its National Executive Committee (NEC) to replace the rebel members.
During the meeting, Sabina Chege, who the Kega faction claims is the acting party leader, was stripped of her minority whip role in the National Assembly and replaced with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje.
The Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu, however, declined to ratify the resolutions of the May 22 NDC.
