Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has made known her intention to vie for the presidential seat during the 2027 General Elections.

Karua joins her former Azimio La Umoja co-principal and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka who has been relentless about competing against President William Ruto in the forthcoming polls.

Having positioned himself as the current opposition leader after the exit of Raila Odinga, Kalonzo has intensified his early campaigns, especially within the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.

With Raila ditching local politics so as to focus on his African Union Commission chairmanship, Kalonzo is seeking to fill the vacuum created by his principal, now than ever before taking the government head on major failures that are curtailing service delivery to the public.

Last evening, Karua was upbeat about her suitability to oust Ruto come 2027 during the launch of her book Against the Tide.

A seasoned politician who has been prominent in Kenya’s politics since the early 1990s during the clamour of multiparty democracy, Karua was Raila’s running mate in the last general polls but the duo lost to Kenya Kwanza alliance pair William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagaua.

Despite having lost major elections in past including the Kirinyaga gubernatorial position in 2017, Karua has remained resilient in the public limelight, criticizing the government over issues that appear to oppress the public and also as a human rights defender.

However, her tough demeanor that earned her the Iron Lady title seems to be her greatest undoing and yesterday she sought to explain her soft side as an amiable person who can easily put up with anybody.

Rural areas “I grew up in the rural area, and those of my time who grew up in the rural areas, and to some extent even today, know that children in the rural areas will join in all the chores, including going to the farm, accompanying adults to the farm, looking after siblings, if you have younger siblings, and playing, because children are children and we play. But making your own toys, making beanbags, making toys from the dry greenery around. And I’m also a person who is devoted to seeing that this country has good governance, prosperous and that we as citizens get the best services from the leadership in the country,” she told her audience
