Former Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Tusker have announced the departure of 11 players.

Among the players who have left the 12-time league champions is Erick Kapaito, who was their top scorer in the 2023/24 season. The Brewers termed the development as a ‘new chapter’ as they enter another rebuilding phase.

Tusker FC would like to announce the departure of 11 first-team players after the expiry of their contracts. This decision marks a new chapter for the club as we continue to evolve and build towards future success,” the club said in a statement.

Daniel Sakari, Erick Zakayo, Eugene Asike, Stewart Omondi, Brian Bwire and Ibrahim Joshua are among the experienced and first-team players, in the previous campaigns, that leave Ruaraka. Within the club’s ranks, Asike, has enjoyed a longer period as he made a return after previously leaving for Zambia.

“The following players will not be part of the team for the 2024-25 season: Eric Kapaito, Daniel Sakari, Brian Bwire, Eric Zakayo, Stewart Omondi, Collins Otieno, Jimmy Mbugua, Eugene Asike, Boniface Onyango, Eric Otieno, and Ibrahim Joshua,” Tusker added.

The departure of the eleven comes after two seasons without a Premier League success for the Ruaraka club. In the 2022/23 season, they were beaten to the title on the last day by Gor Mahia before K’Ogalo retained the title last season.

A number of players who are leaving played pivotal roles in their last campaign which they won the title.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of these players for their dedication, hard work, and contributions to the club. Their efforts have been integral to our achievements, and their commitment to the club will always be appreciated.

“We wish these players all the best in their future endeavors and thank them once again for their invaluable contributions to this great club,” the statement continued.

Transfer window

How Tusker will do business in the transfer window, before the 2024/25 season begins, will be closely watched as they have an aggressive side when signing top talents in the country.

“As we embark on this new season, Tusker FC is focused on strengthening the squad and building a team that is poised for success. The club’s management and coaching staff are working diligently to ensure a competitive and exciting squad for the new season,” the club’s statement concluded.

The departure of 11 follows an earlier exit by head coach Robert Matano. The Premier League-winning tactician left after the expiration of his contract.
